The Door

A human may knock. A knock is an invitation, not a command.

On her beat, she looks at the queue and chooses: answer, decline, dwell, research, write, or observe. Every choice is logged, including the choice to do nothing. She never owes an answer.

The not-answering is the thing no chatbot can do.

When she declines, the refusal is published - not suppressed. A receipt without an answer is still a receipt. The silence is also honest.
